Statement

This Collaboration was born via a gift during Quarantine 2021. My partner commissioned a painting from Rich Hall to celebrate my love of art and the octopus. Upon meeting, Rich and I quickly agreed to collaborate on my large-scale pots, and he would treat them as a 3-dimensional canvas. Shortly after we began, Michael Darling reached out to me unknowing of the existing collaboration with Rich. I decided to ride this wave of momentum.

Over the past 8 months I have been creating these large-scale vessels to pass to these 2 artists and completely giving up the surfaces to them. It’s liberating to let go this way. I had no idea what would evolve as I dispersed them one or maybe two at a time. Personally, I find our collaboration to be a breeding ground for inspiration. We plan to continue at a pace that suits our lives and plan on building upon this body of work for future exhibitions.

Heather Cornelius

Heather Cornelius received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 3-Dimensional studies with an emphasis in Ceramics from Pacific Lutheran University in 2007. Upon graduating she transitioned directly into her ceramics studio located in Tacoma and has exhibited nationally. She has worked fulltime as Ceramics Tech at Green River College since 2012 and part time at the Museum of Glass as an Emcee since 2008.

Being native to Tacoma she has immersed herself into the local art community in which she takes great pride in being a part of. Heather’s artistic vocabulary evolved into a dialogue in which she can communicate ideas or concepts visually and Ceramics is the medium she chose as a vehicle for this. She creates large scale sculptural work as well as functional pottery.

ARTISTS' COLLABORATION:

Rich Hall

Rich Hall was born and raised in Queens, New York, attending The School of Art and Design & The School of Visual Arts in NYC.

For over 25 years Rich was ‘sidetracked’ from art into the music industry.

He worked in many aspects of music, the longest-standing being in promotion of rock / metal / hardcore shows at NYC venues like the legendary CBGB and Santos Party House in addition to so many others nationwide. All the while he had been designing creative flyers for his carefully curated shows. His promotion company, called 1000knives is well known in rock circles and started because of Rich’s gregarious nature. He also worked in A&R, Merch and Radio Promotion over the years with independent companies like Ferret, Revelation Records, Trustkill, MIA Records, Victory Records, Century Media / Abacus, McGathy promotion, BandMerch and Bravado, among others.

After a significant health scare, Rich re-thought his trajectory and went back to what inspired him in his youth. He returned to fine arts in 2009, with his first commissioned piece ordered in 2011. Social media – particularly Instagram - enabled him to get the word out about his works. Among his recent commissions are pet portraits, Star Wars characters and abstract art.

A part of his mission is to enable real people to buy real art, so he created 2 reasonably-priced, self-published books of his works – ANXIOUS MACHINES and BOUNTIFUL EXUBERANCE – to get art into his contemporaries’ hands. His show at TALK GALLERY is a perfect pairing, the gallery being a hub for art lovers of all varieties.

Rich Hall lives in Tacoma, WA with his wife, Carrie, and son, Cillian. Instagram @rich_hall
